PARP 2024: A Passport to Adventure!
January 29 - February 16
Get ready for the journey of a lifetime as we explore the many places reading can take us! From different countries and cultures, to magical worlds and exciting mysteries, curling up with a good book is like having a passport to adventure!
What is PARP?
PARP (Pick A Reading Partner) is an annual tradition at MAS that encourages students and the people in their lives to read together. Through PARP, we encourage a love for reading and support literacy.

How does PARP work?
During PARP, students should read outside of school for at least 20 minutes per day with a parent or other reading partner. Caregivers can log reading minutes on a custom website (see flyer). The classes and students with the most minutes read will win prizes!

When is PARP?
PARP begins Monday, January 29th and ends Friday, February 16th. Check out our calendar of challenges, fun events and spirit days! Together, we can show our tigers what a fun journey reading can be!

If MAS reads 100,000 minutes or more during PARP, Mr. Janowitz has agreed to take on the Principal's Challenge at our closing ceremony on Friday, February 16th!
What's the Principal's Challenge? Well, that's up to YOU! Share a silly, crazy, wacky idea for Mr. Janowitz to choose from and be prepared for a hilarious event!
Due February 5th - drop off your paper in the box in the library!
Principal Challenge
To get started with your reading log and fundraising:

Scan the QR code on your flyer or click here >>>

Select your teacher from the drop down list

Type in your reader's name and click "I do not see my name"

You may have to click "I still don't see my name" another time - don't worry!

Enter the information requested (reader name, parent/guardian contact information, password)

Upload a photo of your reader

Start getting the word out to friends and family that they can support our PTA by donating to your reader's PARP fundraiser!

Fundraising
Did you know one of the ways in which the money we raised last year is being used is to purchase and install new inclusive playground structures? Building on 2023's incredible success of incorporating fundraising into PARP, we are excited to beat last year’s record of $30,000!

Read-a-thon.com makes fundraising easy. You can text friends and family a link to your child’s reading/fundraising page, share on social media, send as an email and more!
​
Money raised during PARP will support assemblies, enrichment opportunities and other activities organized by the PTA - and of course, our spring Carnival Celebration to reward all of our readers!
Fundraising is not required in order to participate in PARP, and we are grateful for many ways families contribute their time and talent to the PTA.
As we explore different cultures and new worlds, we are excited to celebrate the universal power of pets by supporting a local animal rescue again: SNARR (Special Needs Animal Rescue & Rehabilitation)! Throughout PARP, you can drop off Nylabones or similar, Milkbones, paper towels, detergent, Kongs, Blankets, Towels, toys (no rope), or bully sticks.
